2023 Color Trend Alert

With a new year comes new color trend forecasts and today we will be reviewing the chosen hues from Pantone and the industry's major paint manufacturers. Overall, we continue to see an emphasis on nature and biophilia with the inclusion of sun-kissed hues.

Biophilia is defined as the innate human instinct to connect with nature and other living beings. This trend in residential design began about 5 to 6 years ago and gained further momentum during the pandemic when we were bunkered down inside our homes. There is no coincidence that in 2022 most of the major paint manufacturers chose shades of green as their color of the year. Sherwin Williams had Evergreen Fog, Benjamin Moore had October Mist, PPG had Olive Sprig, Dutch Boy had Cypress Garden and Behr had Sea Glass Green.

We continue to see an emphasis on green from Krylon (Spanish Moss) and PPG (Vining Ivy) in 2023. However, Pantone stepped out this year and chose a bold, vibrant shade of pink called Viva Magenta and as a result we are seeing several other shades of blush emerge into the marketplace.

Now let's take a deeper dive into each color and share how we would incorporate into your home starting with... Sherwin Williams Redend Point.

Redend Point is a calming mix of blush and beige which evokes an arid, desert landscape to us. Due to its neutral undertone and lighter shade, we could see this color featured in most rooms of your home. It is warm and inviting and could also easily be used for cabinetry as well.

Terra Rossa by Dunn-Edwards is a soft, earthy shade of pink that blends burgundy and brown. It could be leveraged as a grounding neutral or delicate accent in your home. We think it would work well in a bedroom or powder room.

Benjamin Moore's Raspberry Blush is not for the faint at heart. It is a vibrant orange-red that is energizing. We think it should be used sparingly as a bold statement in a powder room or as an accent on your kitchen island.

Krylon's Spanish Moss is a deep forest green with nods to dense forests and mossy terrains. As hues of green become the new neutrals, we see this color pairing well with most other colors and used in multiple spaces of your home. We recommend incorporating other colors that relate to nature like gold and copper with this hue.

PPG's Vining Ivy is a perfect blend of blue and green. It is energizing and grounding and could be used practically anywhere in your home. We love it as a wall color or as an accent for kitchen cabinetry. It pairs beautifully with other earthy elements such as wood finishes and stone accents.

With a new year comes optimism and a fresh start. We are looking forward to assisting you with a color consultation for your next design endeavor and incorporating these color trends into our future projects!
